To get some meaningful information, I would need a version of darktable compiled with debugging information and having the sources online. As darktable doesn't crash but just hangs, there is no core dump. In the meanwhile I found out, that it does work with entangle, from where I can fetch the darktable film rolls. Maybe things get better with the next dot release.
