so what do you do in case your history stack diverged between
snapshots? history with undo doesn't have to be a linear stack, it
might be a tree. of course when you branch off again, you delete the
old branch, so it's a stack. but you might still have old snapshots.

maybe to support what you want it would be better to associate a
snapshot with a history stack? could be realized by writing the xmp
next to the temp screenshot for the snapshot, so you can read it back
with one more button in the snapshot module.
