I'd like to elaborate this.  It means that seen from the side
(cross-section), the surface, the sensor plane, and the light ray
form an isosceles triangle.  The intersection of surface plane and
the sensor plane is the vertex of that triangle.  I call alpha the
angle at that vertex.  Then,

    y_VP = f/d * cot(alpha)
    y_ES = f/d * tan(alpha/2)

This leads the my formula in the previous post.
