| The information that darktable stores in its xmp file does look very | useful. If there were an option to tell darktable to put all its XMP | files in one directory, completely separated from my archive folder | where my originals are stored, that would be great! Have I overlooked | such an option?
I don't know if there's such an option, but it may be potentially useful to you that Darktable apparently embeds all of the XMP file information in EXIF information in generated JPEGS (and presumably TIFFs and so on as well). It can also reload this information from them, although it takes a little bit of a dance. Of course this doesn't help if you're in the middle of editing and haven't generated outputs yet. (In some ways this is better than the XMP sidecar files because you're guaranteed to have the exact settings used to generate a specific output image instead of just the last settings you were working on.) - cks ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rapidly troubleshoot problems before they affect your business.
