That is a histogram. It's supposed to be basic knowledge among users of graphics applications, so any descriptive text would distract almost all users without telling anything they don't know already. That doesn't mean that we expect people to be born with that knowledge, I just wouldn't add a description to our GUI. Does [0] help you to understand it (I suppose you are German)?
