I had a good read of the interesting article. Essentially it is going into great complexity to allow different white balance values for shadows, highlights, and a whole range of intermediate values as well.
I think dt's colour correction filter does a great job at this (it seems to me much more intuitively than the referenced software) by allowing separate colour filters for shadows and highlights. And if really, really needed we can run multiple instance of this with parametric filters to determine exactly how they apply giving at least as much as the colour co-ordinate based approach we are hypothetically trying to mimic. -----Original Message----- From: Robert William Hutton [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 27 August 2014 14:46 To: Darktable-users Subject: Re: [Darktable-users] Color Balancing On 18/08/14 22:16, Bernhard wrote: > before switching to linux in order to use darktable I used Picture Window. > I wonder if darktable also allows such color balancing technics as > described here > http://www.dl-c.com/Temp/downloads/Whitepapers/Color_Balance.pdf on pages 2 > ... 11. I've only skim-read the article, but it seems to me you're looking for white balance, although afaik this only does linear transforms. There are a bunch of presets or you could use the spot white balance feature that will work off (non-clipped) white or neutral grey even if it's approaching black. That ought to get you started, at least. You could also have a look at this article about reference targets and camera profiling: https://encrypted.pcode.nl/blog/2010/06/28/darktable-camera-color-profiling/ Regards, Rob ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Slashdot TV.
