Should do, yes.  You should also be able to avoid having to rebuild lensfun by 
adding the XML entry for your lens to:

~/.local/share/lensfun/<lensname>.xml

The contents of which should look something like:

<lensdatabase>
        <lens>
                <maker>Sigma</maker>
                <model>Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM</model>

...

        </lens>
</lensdatabase>
