If you mean by darktable the opposite is true. In 1.4 a lot of Pentax and other smaller brands (and some quirky models of major brands) were second class citizens using libraw to load the raw data, which is generally much slower. In 1.6 rawspeed support has been added for pretty much everything so there should be a noticeable speed improvement. Unfortunately we don't have example files for all models out there so the metadata for a few was not included in 1.6.0. We've been fixing those as fast as they are reported. There seems to be a second so far unexplained issue that results in the "images not available" error message. So far we don't have many clues as to what could be happening. It's on my TODO list to try and reproduce it on my local install.
