I wrote in the past about this.

I found a similar request in bug#9401, on
2013(http://darktable.org/redmine/issues/9401).
It is set as fixed, but I'm not sure about that.

Bug #9932 and #9869 (rejected) are relevant too.

I think the current behavior is a little confusing (as written some
month ago) but I don't know if the main dev team wants to change it.
