OK ... I am guessing that I need to go into the blend mode and then partially or totally disable the chroma setting using a parametric mask. This infers that 'chroma' blend setting is normally in place for the 'automatic' mode but not for the 'manual' mode. My apologies ... It took a while to sink in.
