Is there a way of renaming them inside DT?

How do I remove them from the lighttable? Do I need to keep a manual
list and delete them one by one?

For the vast, vast majority of the images, there will be no edit at
this point. I realize my mistake at the tagging/keyword stage. If not,
I can deal with the renaming of the XMP at the same time

LR makes a collection: "Missing Photos". Then there is the choice of
either deleting them the db or finding them somewhere else on the
drive. If the name is the same, it will also look for any other
missing image in that directory. If the name is different it gives a
warning: are you sure, the names are different? then it accepts it.
