I employe something similar which suits my purpose better:
exiv2 mv \-k \-r %y%m%d_%H%M%S_:basename: \.\/*.{nef,jpg,xmp}'
Besure to change "mv" to "cp" for testing. I also lower case all
filenames before importing to dt, and set the file date-time to the image
date-time:
exiv2 -T ./*.{nef,jpg}
