Can this be deprecated or is this set in stone? I mean, can T.I. say "well, we 
used to do it this way, but it prevents us from moving forward" (which sounds 
like it does)?

It sounds like you have, in essence, warned them that it is not supported. 
Hence, perhaps I don't understand why it must be supported... sounds very 
contradictory.
