We had a similar style of problem when installing MS SQL Server onto a
client which already had Sybase installed.
We found that Sybase was very particular about where it's libraries were
in the PATH statement (either at the start or at the end - I can't
remember exactly). Something to do with a Sybase specific DLL file.
