The backup image includes all of the database's metadata, including the
container definitions, history file, system catalogs, ...
To decrease your backup size try using a backup buffer size of 129 - 4K
pages, the default is 1024 -4K pages.

[DB2EUG] Backup versus export sizes

Hi all,
I've got what is probably some FAQs, but I'll ask it any way...
I see a big difference between the size of a database backup
and the size of all of the exported tables.
For example, I've backed up a database that creates a 4GB file.
If I export all of the tables for that same database (using
db2move) the total size is 1.7GB.
My questions:
Why the big difference?
Is there a way to make the backup smaller?
TIA,
Doug Carter
