Well, it shows "RICHARD G. MITCHELL" for PERFORMER, and nothing for
DURATION, using the same queries as posted in code earlier.

Just to warn you, isql doesn't check if the field is null, it just calls SQLGetData as a SQL_CHAR, and prints the char that comes back.
