Yes thanks. As you & someone else pointed, the solution is to also recompile Perl with gcc.

If you're going to use sun's precompiled perl then you are going to need sun's CC unless you know how to edit Makefiles to accomodate gcc (which is free and the binaries are available). My suggestion, build your own perl with gcc, then you won't have any issue about buying the sun compilers. There is a place for microsoft and a place for unix. Microsoft is not wining... Enough said.
