I just finished a valgrind run but I can't find any leaks. Nor have I ever seen such memory usage on my main test setups.

Nathan, were you using gmime-2.1 or gmime-2.0??

It could also be that you're using some imap client that probes part of the imap code untouched by the test suite....

Well 2.1 is the unstable development branch, so it doesn't surprise me that there are issues.

Given that you mention you're using 2.0.4, I have just tried downgrading
to 2.0.4, and it indeed does not have the problem.

Looks like 2.1.0 has a memory problem of some sort. I'll stick to 2.0.4
for now.

300MB of memory is not the norm for IMAP access to 1500 items.

I have 16K+ messages in my inbox accessed over the slowest interface of them all, SquirrelMail + Dbmail 2.0.4 IMAP (inndob). Access time to inbox is 5 seconds with less than 8MB ram usage from the dbmail-imap process.

First, use innodb for medium to large sized setup if using mysql and dbmail. Second, make sure the innodb buffer is large enough to hold the indicies. Same goes for myisam key buffer.

I should point out that other than this issue, it's working great, and is
VERY fast.

I've just starting testing out dbmail to hold my mail archive for easy
access via imap.
Unfortunately, it looks to me like it does not perform reasonably for
large folders - in particular, I've seen memory utilization (both total
and rss) climb to over 300MB on folders with 1500 messages in them.

It's not clear if this is a leak or a design issue.

Should I expect dbmail-imapd to use that much memory for large folders?

Running 2.1.0 on a relatively current mdk 10 cooker.
