Sorry, after a little more homework it appear that CentOS (RHEL) install both glib 1.2 and glib 2.4 or more specifically:
glib-1.2.10-15 and glib2-2.4.7-1 I'm gonna try to upgrade the glib2 package to 2.6.x Matt
