How many users? Total/concurrently? POP/IMAP? How much change in mails/day (incoming/deleted)? I heavily use the CLUSTER command, and see on our production system an increase of backup time Mo-Fr, and on Sa we do dbmail-util -dp and CLUSTER afterwards, that speeds up things dramatically.
