Thanks for that info..
I did actually find your post about setting it up with procmail... I was
thinking about using it
but ideally i want to keep it all in the database (or as much of it as
possible) as its for a clients mail management interface.
Of course, that's why we're all using dbmail. But afaik the autoreply
feature is too stupid for production use. It doesn't remember who it
replied to, thus setting you up for some nasty mailloops that will not
reflect nicely on dbmail should it hit some high-traffic list :-)
I'll have a look for the patch tho..
Thanks again,
Dan.

Try searching the recent archives of the list.
Auto-reply as build into dbmail appears to be broken. A patch to fix
this was posted last week.
Also, last week I've posted a HOWTO for setting up autoreplies with
dbmail using procmail.

still trying to get the auto_replies to work...
i found this in the maillog:
Aug 10 14:38:29 web2 dbmail/smtp[1583]: send_reply(): found sendmail
command to be [/usr/sbin/sendmail]
Aug 10 14:38:29 web2 dbmail/smtp[1583]: send_reply(): found SUBJECT
[TESTING]
Aug 10 14:38:29 web2 dbmail/smtp[1583]: send_reply(): found FROM
["Daniel Bryant" < <mailto:>>]
Aug 10 14:38:29 web2 dbmail/smtp[1583]: send_reply(): header fields
scanned; opening pipe to sendmail
Aug 10 14:38:29 web2 dbmail/smtp[1583]: send_reply(): sending data
Aug 10 14:38:29 web2 dbmail/smtp[1583]: send_reply(): pipe closed
Aug 10 14:38:29 web2 dbmail/smtp[1583]: send_reply(): reply could not be
sent: sendmail error
this is strange as my dbmail+postfix setup works perfectly in every
other way. it delivers mail flawlessly to local and remote recipients.
any light anyone can shed on this woudl be most appreciated. :D
cheers,
Dan.
