I like to keep mail within my MTA as long as possible and only pass it
to dbmail for deliveries that are actually going into the database.
This is nice because alias expansion, for example, doesn't cause
reinjection of a new message into the MTA. So I have my MTA (exim)
process users' filters and setup delivery to a particular dbmail mailbox
using dbmail-smpt -m mailbox -u user.
For spam filtering, I use exiscan-acl which allows scanning at smtp time
and only causes a message to be scanned once, rather than once per
recipient. This doesn't lend itself to individual spamassassin
configurations, but each user can act on the score as they see fit.
I know this isn't quite what you were asking, but I hope it gives you
some ideas on another way to solve the same problems.
