Whether the user uses the INBOX or a created folder to store their email the cost to you is the same.

You remove a certain amount of utility from the product (IMAP mail storage) in that they user can't easily organize their data but you aren't doing anything to limit the amount of mail they actually store on your system.

I'm "guessing" your goal is to let them receive large amounts of email to deal with sudden increases w/o continually providing storage space for every email they ever get.. Perhaps deleting old emails, large emails older than "x" or something like that might work. Especially if this was ONLY triggered when their mail is at or above quota.

That isn't really something I would expect from my mail software so much as standalone app or script. I'm not saying dbmail shouldn't do this, just that its not an intrinsic part of mail services.
I would think a third party app would almost always provide more options.

Want im trying to say is that i would like to have the option not to impose
any quota restriction for my users receiving there mail
but i would like to impose quota restriction for the amount
of mail they archive with imap.

I did that with uw-imap by not setting linux quota
restriction on one 200gig disk drive with the mount point
/var/spool/mail (the inboxs of all my users).

And by setting quota restriction
on a other 200gig drive with the mount point
/home/users_directory (the folders of all my users).

That way i made shure that all my users would never drop any
incomming mail because of a lack of space.

Selon Paul J Stevens <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

What's the difference of users storing their mail in inbox rather than some other folder ?

Could a parameter in the dbmail.conf file
be set in dbmail 2.0 so quota would only apply to users folders

excluding the inbox.

Then i could let all my users receive all the mail they want but

not keep all the mail they want !!!!!
