It has been a long time since I used 1.x.x. Moving to 2.0.7 is not so hard. I did it with no pain.

1) Yes to DBMail 2.07 (not 2.x for production!!!)
2) Yes to InnoDB (for sure)
3) http://www.dbma.ca DBMailAdministrator replaces all your PHP user management/

4) Don't mess with the running system. Consider building a parallel system; migrating your existing accounts and mail and then when fully satisfied, roll out the new system. You need to time the events so that you can at the time of final mail migration, freeze the database against writes while the MTA stores/queues mail. As you failover to the new system, you push out the new database into production; and have the MTA flush and forward then resume normal mail via dbmail-lmtp / dbmail-smtp (whatever transports you use) to the new DBMail 2.0.7 system.

5) Make it easier... Why not have everything on the same server? Is your MTA really that busy? You can then use your other for WebMail, Admin, MX2 etc.

best...
Mike

Subject: [Dbmail] Mysql and the dbmail 2.x

Current configuration:
dbmail 1.2.x (I think 1.2.9)
mysql 4.1.0-alpha
Postfix MTA

Running MyISAM tables currently. The users table has several custom columns. The machine that is running dbmail is on one host, and the mysql database is on another server. I'd like to accomplish the following:

1. Upgrade the database to InnoDB
2. Move the pop3 daemon (new/upgraded) to the mysql server
3. Upgrade the smtp daemon and leave it on the current server
4. I have several custom PHP apps that add/remove users, which I'd like to keep working without too much unplanned downtime. I don't mind fixing them, but not sure how different the queries are or if they will be as a result of the upgrade to InnoDB. The main thing is that I KNOW about what kinds of changes I need to make.

I am not a mysql expert and the documentation for mysql is a little worrisome to me. In other words, I lack confidence that I can pull this off on a running system. I'm considering paying someone to assist with this upgrade, but not certain where to look. Any advice on either very clear HOW-TOs or direction on who would be good to hire for this type of work?
