We usually call it "Irish". Americans call it "Gaelic", we don't :)

I wouldn't say it's necessary to speak the language, though it
certainly helps. A lot will be obvious in context, and I'd be happy to
help with anything that isn't.

There are already some mappings for Irish:
http://mappings.dbpedia.org/index.php/Mapping_ga and I think there's
some basic support in the code. Someone else can tell you what's
needed to start a new chapter.
