What we know with near certainty is the following: 1) A Hell's Angels benefit with the Dead was held at the Anderson Theater on 11/23/70 (newspaper advertisments, Crossland's review in the East Village Other) 2) The Dead, Hot Tuna, and members of Traffic played at the Fillmore East on 11/16/70 (Night Owl Reporter review in the N.Y. Daily News dated 11/18/70, eyewitness accounts, Dennis McNally's book What A Long Strange Trip p. 382) 3) Traffic played at Kleinhan's Music Hall in Buffalo on 11/23/70 (confirmed in writing by Kleinhan's).

One eyewitness to the 11/16/70 Fillmore East show, Steven Ross, has listened to the recording in question and confirms that it was the show he was at. Also, audible on the recording before Mama Tried, are individuals calling Jack Casady up to play 'Hey Casady, why don't you play? Yeah come on, Jack".

Is it possible the Uncle John's Band is appended to the 11/16/70 show and is actually from the Anderson show? Anything is possible, but it is highly unlikely. The mix and soundstage is consistent with the rest of the recording. And the source of the recording is the Fillmore East soundcrew who were set up to record it.
