An eyewitness account corroborates and further clarifies both the list in Deadbase IX and the previous listing here: that Set 3 is with Merl Saunders, Dickey Betts and Butch Trucks. Based on earlier messages from folks listening to the tapes, there is no audible evidence to support the suggestion that it is or even is not Merl on keyboards.

I was there and I don't remember Merle playing but more importantly, there is no mention of him in the lineup for
It Takes A Lot To Laugh....  on the "postcards of the hanging" album.

I know the JGB was playing around the RFK dates, maybe somebody just saw him there onstage/backstage.
