Indonesian court commutes death sentence for Nigerian drug dealer

An Indonesian appeals court has commuted a death sentence given to a
Nigerian drug smuggler to 20 years in prison.

A clerk at Jakarta's Tangerang criminal court says the decision to reduce
the death sentence against Stephen Rasheed Akinyemi was made a couple of
months ago, but he was informed of it on Wednesday.

The clerk says it is only the second time a drug trafficker's death
sentence has been commuted in Tangerang, where the court is notorious for
issuing death sentences for drug crimes.

Akinyemi was convicted of smuggling about one kilogram of heroin to
Indonesia.
