RUSSIA:

Senators for Death Penalty on Terrorists

Several members of the upper house of the Russian parliament, the
Federation Council, have supported the idea to impose death penalty on
terrorists.

The head of defense and security committee of the Council, Viktor Ozerov,
quoted by Interfax news agency said senators propose such amendments to
the Russian legislation.

"Terrorist must know what awaits him. I am sure that many of my colleagues
in the house will support such changes in the Criminal Procedure Code,"
Ozerov was quoted by the agency as saying.

Russia declared moratorium on death penalty in 1996 in connection with its
entry to the Council of Europe. However, the law on a full abolition of
the death penalty is not approved yet.
