JAPAN:
Slayer of boys gets death sentence
The district court here handed the death sentence Thursday to a man who
killed the 2 young sons of his friend by hurling them from a bridge into a
river.
Presiding Judge Susumu Iibuchi said, "What Akihiro Shimoyama did is a
despicable crime that sprang from a strong and definite intent to kill."
Prosecutors had sought the death penalty.
Lawyers for the defendant immediately appealed.
According to the ruling, Shimoyama, 40, threw Hayato Kobayashi, 3, and his
brother, Kazuto, 4, into the Omoigawa river at around 1:30 a.m. on Sept.
12. Both of the boys drowned.
The two boys and their father had earlier moved into the apartment of
Shimoyama and his two children in Oyama, Tochigi Prefecture.
Shimoyama had been under stress, his lawyers said.

IRAN:
10 hangings, death sentences in one week
The mullahs' anti-human regime hanged two Kurdish political activists,
Messrs. Esmail Mohammadi and Mohammad Panjbini, in Orumieh Prison
(northwest Iran) on Saturday.
In a statement on April 21, 2005, the National Council of Resistance of
Iran had expressed concern over the likelihood of Mr. Mohammadi's
execution on the charge of membership in the Komulah organization and
urged international human rights bodies to intervene immediately to save
his life. Mr. Mohammadi, 38, was from the town of Bukan, married with 5
children.
The mullahs' henchmen also hanged Houshang Bameri on Friday in Delgan
Township in the city of Iranshahr (southeast Iran). He had been charged
with killing 2 agents of the State Security Force.
The state-controlled media reported that 7 others had been sentenced to
death last week. One of the victims is a teenager who was under the age of
18 at the time of his alleged offence.
The NCRI again urges international human rights bodies to condemn these
barbaric executions and calls on the upcoming United Nations General
Assembly session to adopt a strongly-worded resolution censuring the
inhuman atrocities perpetrated by the theocracy ruling Iran. It urges the
UN Human Rights Commission to appoint a Special Representative to monitor
the appalling state of human rights in Iran.
