I think the HCLs are the definitive (externally accessible :-) source. We've tended to stick with controller families (so that updating a driver was all that was needed) rather than introducing completely new ones. Recent additions have been Adaptec (but not all of them), Intel EEPro100 NIC, NCR/Symbios 896, and a couple of recent Mylex RAID controllers.
