Hi Steve (and all)-
I should have done more research before throwing the question out there
- my bad.
I did an strace on my own and the problem became apparent - I had
compiled a php5 extension on my own (eaccelerator).
The version of php5 got upgraded and didn't like the version of
eaccelerator built for the old version of php5.
I was only reading the apache2 log - I should have checked the php5 log
sooner (since I had narrowed it down to that module!).
Thanks for checking it out for me!

Does anyone on the list run Apache2 with mod_php5?
I performed a dist-upgrade and now apache2 hangs on startup when I try
to use mod_php5. This is all from "stable", minus the libc which is
from unstable.
I don't, but I just did a quick test here of installing the stable apache2
and libapache2-mod-php5 on my alpha running unstable, and apache2 seems to
start up just fine.
Can you attach to the hung apache2 process with gdb, and provide a
backtrace?
