Xorg 7, which is in Unstable, requires nvidia-glx 1.0.8756-3 or higher.
AMD64 packages for 8756-4 are in official Unstable, along with the rest

I am not sure I understand this. xorg7.0 requires nvidia-glx?? Surely
you mean the otherway around, don't you?

You cannot use Xorg 7 with any version of nvidia-glx below 1.0.8756-3. This is what I meant.

I don't doubt that nvidia-glx IS in the repositories..... but I have
been unable to install it due to dependencies on other programs.

"apt-cache search nvidia-glx" shows me this:

nvidia-glx - NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x driver
nvidia-glx-dev - NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x / Xorg driver development files
nvidia-glx-ia32 - NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x driver
nvidia-glx-legacy - NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x driver (legacy version)
nvidia-glx-legacy-dev - NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x driver development files
nvidia-glx-legacy-ia32 - NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x / Xorg driver
(legacy version)
nvidia-kernel-legacy-source - NVIDIA binary kernel module source
(legacy version)
nvidia-kernel-source - NVIDIA binary kernel module source
nvidia-kernel-2.6.14.5 - NVIDIA binary kernel module for Linux 2.6.14.5
nvidia-kernel-2.6.14 - NVIDIA binary kernel module for Linux 2.6.14

I assume that the plain nvidia-glx is the version 8756-4 you mention.

Risky assumption. What does "apt-cache policy nvidia-glx" have to say?
