I eventually found that out. But it took a couple of years to happen, and it only broke on my 64-bit system. My solution on that system? Avoid the nvidia driver, and use the nv driver. It seems faster (for normal desktop work), and it handles dual monitors (two video cards), though not TwinView. So, ultimately, my mistake actually turned out to be a benefit. Though I'm /still/ using the regular nvidia binary installer on my 32-bit work laptop. What bugged me more was the latest xorg transition. Anyway, I hope Debian doesn't get as wrapped-around-the-axle with scripting the way RedHat did by version 8 (long ago). That's what prompted me to stop using RedHat. -- Q: Why is it that Mexico isn't sending anyone to the '84 summer games?
