Looks like an internal error of genisoimage. '.' should be mapped to a 0x00-byte in ECMA-119, '..' to 0x01. See ECMA-119, 6.8.2.2 Identification of directories. These names are reserved for that purpose. Any other colliding ECMA-119 names should be handled by mangling. But why is that mini.iso produced by genisoimage at all ? debian-7.2.0-sparc-netinst.iso was produced by xorriso.
