Hi,

I would assume the problem is deterministic and depends on
the exact tree of file names which is given to genisoimage
as input.
So adding a few names of empty files here and there might help.

Debian-cd uses xorriso's compatibility command "-as mkisofs".
If you have the opportunity to just exchange every occurence of
   genisoimage
by
   xorriso -as mkisofs
or, if a single word is needed, by its symbolic link alias
   xorrisofs
then this might well be worth a try.

It should work with xorriso-1.3.2 from sid, and most probably
also with 1.2.2 from stable. debian-7.4.0-sparc-netinst.iso was
built by xorriso-1.2.6, probably from
  http://www.gnu.org/software/xorriso/xorriso-1.2.6.tar.gz

If you can point me to the code which controls the genisoimage
run, then i will inspect it for problematic options.

Have a nice day :)

Thomas
