The debian installer certainly does do that if booted in UEFI mode. Many systems allow you to boot USB devices in legacy or UEFI mode. You have to boot in UEFI mode to install with GPT and UEFI. If you boot legacy mode, then it won't. Also you of course must be using the amd64 installer not the i386 installer (probably just about no one should use that anymore). -- Len Sorensen
