Yes, the installer team would not be unhappy, if all desktop environments would have such meta package for controlling the wanted packages, while the meta package being under the hood of the respective DE people. They should know better, which packages they want/need in their environment, than we do. There was an affort to create such meta packages, but not all followed that path yet.
