Unfortunately, 8.0 doesn't boot to a point where I can see its dmesg
(otherwise, I think that I would have already solved this issue).

Heh, it funny that hal dies on this system.

This is already there in the grub.cfg lines.

I suspect that GRUB automatically probes the HDs and shows them as a
list, starting from 0, without taking into account the kind of busses
and the topology on the computer.
