Package: devfsd
Version: 1.3.25-19
Severity: wishlist
Although /usr/share/doc/devfsd/README.Debian says to tell the boot
loader to pass devfs=mount to the kernel, it (a) does not actually
explain how to do this using lilo, and (b) does not actually explain
how to do this using grub.
Problem (a) is easy to solve because you just add a line
append="devfs=mount"
to /etc/lilo.conf, and this is actually mentioned in the lilo
documentation. So devfsd/README.Debian should just tell the user
exactly what to do instead of assuming that (like me) they are lilo
experts. Even nicer would be to add this automatically when lilo.conf
is not being managed manually.
The appropriate procedure with grub seems much more mysterious, i.e. I
myself didn't know it offhand and the grub documentation doesn't
explain in any fashion amenable to grep-and-do without actually
instead of actually reading top-to-bottom. So I would urge you to
either explain what to do if under grub, or better if possible to just
do it.

The provided documentation coming with grub seems to be sufficient to
explain how appending of kernel parameters work.
If you disagree, please reopen this bug report.
