Package: grub
Version: 0.93+cvs20031021-8
Severity: normal
I have a machine I just installed Debian woody onto. The script
update-grub was working great.
Then upgraded to sarge and I fired up devfs when I upgraded to kernel
2.6.3. Now when I run update-grub I get the output:
Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub .
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part6 does not have any corresponding BIOS
drive.
I'm assuming that update-grub needs to be updated to handle devfs, but
I'm not sure yet. I should take more time to explore it, sorry. I also
looked for similar bugs but didn't see any that seemed appropriate,
though several related to update-grub processing.
Regards,

This problem has been fixed in grub2. The new update-grub uses a completely
different approach at finding the root drive, that is more flexible and not
easily confused by new, unexpected names like /dev/ide/..../disc.
Please verify that update-grub2 works fine, and report bugs in that package if
you find issues.
