I have got problems to set my mediawiki installation up properly. I
tried to follow the instructions from the README.Debian.gz of this
package. Apache2 seems to work and is delivering the default webpage
("It works") when http://localhost is called. However, calling adresses like
"localhost/mediawiki/" "localhost/mediawiki/config/index.php" and so on,
return a error 404.
I tried dpkg-reconfigure mediawiki1.10 and as a result the symlink
mediawiki1.10.conf -> /etc/mediawiki1.10/apache.conf was created in
/etc/apache2/conf.d/ was created, but the error 404 remains.
The article about running mediawiki on debian from
mediawiki.org which is also referenced in the README (BTW, the
web-adress is outdated. The page moved to
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Running_MediaWiki_on_Debian_GNU/Linux)
only covers Versions 1.5 and 1.7. If there are additional steps
necessary to configure mediawiki (apart from calling
localhost/mediawiki/config/) please update the README to include
installation procedures for new installations.

We cannot provide a configuration that works for all possible settings under
apache.
This location is commented in /etc/mediawiki1.10/apache.conf, just look there.
