Package: samba
Version: 2.2.3a-6
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
After 2-3 days, Win 9x domain logons cease happening alover the network. We
have configured the clients to a Node Type of Peer to Peer via DHCP, which
means they are totally reliant on the WINS server. After 2-3 days Win9x domain
logons fail due to nmbd being unable to resolve queries about the machine
itself as a server! ( I have captured the packets of the failed logon
sessions).
Due to the fact that I have to get everyone to logg off (14 people), or
ditch all there sessions in the middle of the business day, I listed this
problem as grave and the serious nature of the problem renders Woody samba
unfit for use in a stable distibution.
We are using WINS to avoid problems I have seen before with Windows
name resolution and to make it more reliable, and reduce overall
networking traffic due broadcast name resolution.
Please get back to me about the packet dumps. Due to the nature of the problem
bringing things to a stand still after running 100% well for 2-3 days, it is
pretty hard to replicate, and I cannot take much time to analyse things when it
happens.
Best regards,
Matthew Grant

These bugs were reported against the version of samba in woody. As of this
week, the stable release of Debian will be sarge; if you are still
experiencing any of these bugs with woody, please upgrade to sarge, as they
are all believed to be fixed in this new stable version of Debian.
Thanks,
