Subject: kernel-image: excessive USB debugging info compiled in

Package: kernel-image
Version: Linux version 2.4.18-bf2.4 from Woody Installer (not installed)
Severity: important

The 2.4.18-bf2.4 kernel that comes with the Woody installer apparently has
the "excessive USB storage debugging output" compile-time option selected.

This makes USB support in the kernel almost useless--"excessive"
really means "excessive": the kernel spends an inordinate amount of time
printing and things slow to a crawl, and logs fill up gigabytes of disk
space quickly.

Please don't select "excessive USB debugging output" in ANY shipping
kernel, much less in the default kernel.

These bugs have been fixed in modern kernels (2.4.27 or 2.6.8)
included in Debian 3.1 (sarge).
