Version: 0.99.8-1
Severity: normal
When including a graphic into a LaTeX document using the graphicx package (and
the command
\includegraphics{lattice} ) rubber helpfully uses xfig to convert .fig files
into .eps files for
direct inclusion. This is great. But if I request PDF files, the .fig get
converted into .png
files, which are bitmaps (and hence subject to all sorts of problems). It is
possible to convert
from .eps to .pdf files, which are vector files. Moreover (and perhaps this
should be a separate
bug) if the .png files exist, they are used to generate new .eps files, rather
than using the source
.fig files. This has the effect that the following sequence of operations
leads to out-of-date
pictures no matter how many times rubber is run:
* Create a .fig file
* Include it in a LaTeX document
* rubber the LaTeX document (eps is generated)
* rubber -d the LaTeX document (png is generated)
* Edit the .fig file
* rubber the LaTeX document (nothing is done)
* delete the .eps file
* rubber the LaTeX document (the new eps is generated from the png)
The TeX FAQ has this to say:
The simple solution is to convert the EPS to an appropriate PDF file. The
epstopdf program will do
this: it's available either as a Windows executable or as a Perl script to run
on Unix and other
similar systems.
