Package: mediawiki
Version: 1:1.14.0-1
Severity: normal

I'm looking forward to using mediawiki, and in the
process of setting up this fine software, I
noticed that the instructions in

    /usr/share/doc/mediawiki/README.Debian.gz

say that mediawiki can be accessed at

    http://www.myserver.org/mediawiki

but that didn't work for me.

Nor did replacing "www.myserver.org" with
"localhost" or "127.0.0.1".

However, uncommenting the line that says

    # Alias /mediawiki /var/lib/mediawiki

in

    /etc/mediawiki/apache.con

solved the problem.

I would like to humbly suggest either

    a.) uncommenting that line in the package's
    file, and having the install script restart
    apache2, or

    b.) explaining in

            /usr/share/doc/mediawiki/README.Debian.gz

        that one should manually uncomment the
        line and do

            $ apache2ctl restart

        as root.

Thanks,
Kingsley

        Hi !

Thanks for reporting those issues. However, I am closing them: they are
related to the webserver's configuration, which is out of the scope of this
package and its documentation.

The reason for proposing the Alias commented out is because it cannot fit for
all installs, and also because most of webserver's administrator would like to
configure themselves where the mediawiki files are served and with which
configuration.

Romain
