Package: nessus-plugins
Version: 2.2.3-1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

The recent removal of the non-free plugins left 11808 without 11835.
Without 11835, 11808 has many false positives, possibly breaking many
automated systems that rely on it being accurate.

http://mail.nessus.org/pipermail/nessus/2003-September/msg00102.html
mentions this problem briefly, and you can see in msrpc_dcom.nasl:

#if(!get_kb_item("Launched/11835"))exit(0);
if(get_kb_item("SMB/KB824146"))exit(0);
if(get_kb_item("SMB/KB824146_cant_be_verified"))exit(0);

It runs but says almost every host is vulnerable...

I fixed it by putting the 11835 plugin back, but that is one of the
non-free ones...

You filled the bug http://bugs.debian.org/297422 in Debian BTS
against the package nessus-plugins. I'm closing it at *unstable*, but it will
remain open for older distributions.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/534502. That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
