Package: apt-proxy
Version: 1.9.17
Severity: normal

The network with a three Linux boxes sits behind a firewall. There is a
Squid up and running to ftp and http out to the internet. This works fine with .deb-repositories that can be accessed through http. But I could not get it up and working with repositories that are to be accessed with ftp.

In /var/log/apt-proxy.log, I keep seeing

2004/09/23 11:37 CEST [-] [debug] Connection Failed: \
   [Failure instance: Traceback: twisted.internet.error.NoRouteError, \
No route to host: 101: Network is unreachable.

This, and also a consultation with the Squid logs, reveals that apt-proxy does not try to use the firewall proxy, but instead tries to open an ftp connection directly. Which cannot work, given the way we have set up our firewall.

Also, I could not find any documentation on how to set up the equivalent ftp_proxy of the http_proxy configuration variable.

Workaround: I downgraded to apt-proxy version 3.6, as documented over at bug 267880, see

   http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=267880

Regards, and thank you for providing fine software

Andreas
