I have a setup with lessdisks clients set up as workstations for
debian-edu. We uses normal debian-kernels (2.4.27-2-386 on the clients and
2.4.27-2-686-smp no the server). The clients all have about 256 MB memory,
en this is enough in most tasks. However - the users low to play with big
files in OpenOffice - and they are all saved as MSOffice fileformat. One
typical example is a powerpoint presentation with some photos. The
presentations typically are >> 20MB, the biggest We've foudn is 102MB (!!)
ok - let set up swap over nbd.
I Tested this on a small basis first manually set up 2 clients and 2
swapfiles, and the swapfiles got their name as
/var/lib/lessdisks/swap/swapfile.<IP>
the first client connected fine, and now the users were able to
open their nice litte (?) presentations.
OK lets try to automate this then.
I enabled the setup using /etc/nbd-server on the server, and
/etc/nbd-client on the client.
I rebooted the next server, and everything went well.
Then I tried to reboot 9 other clients. They all seemed to end up
in a deadlock. I had to have someone reboot them after I moved the
/etc/nbd-client away.
I also tried to set up nbd-server using inetd, but then nothing
happened. Not really sure why.
So my questions is then maybe more like:
- It should be possible to use multiple clients against one server,
shouldn't it ?
- It should be possible to use inetd to server the clients ?
