Thanks for the forward -- It seems that the server (free.hands.com) was
not happy about something, as it had spontaneously rebooted a couple of
weeks ago, which might well coincide with the start of this problem.
Since then, I'd noticed page allocation failures in the logs, which may
be related. I've since rsynced the mirror with full checksums, and have
then checked the md5sums. I've also forced a comparison of the md RAID
devices, which seems to show that the physical media were ok, also
pointing towards some problem in software, or perhaps system RAM.
I've now installed a new kernel, and have not seen page allocation
failures since, but then again the server is not currently heavily
loaded since it's not serving as the UK mirror at present.
So, it should be the case that this issue is now dealt with.
